Save the White Pines

Mature white pines are among the highest carbon-storing trees in New England. The 2023 Massachusetts Climate Forestry Committee found that “maintaining forest cover is essential” and that every acre cleared releases stored carbon. 

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is moving forward with a plan to clearcut 175 acres of 80–100-year-old white pines in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest — located at the heart of Martha's Vineyard and above its sole source aquifer. Friends of Vineyard Forests stands with the community effort to shift this plan in a less destructive direction.
